Saturday Nov. 7: Miami Departure and Lima Arrival

From Miami, San Francisco, and Bogota to Lima, Peru!

We assembled at 3 different airports for departure on Avianca to Lima, Peru. The flight from Miami went by like a breeze- just a little over 5 hours. The sun had set before we could catch a glimpse of flying over the majestic mountaintops of the Andes.

We landed at the Lima airport which is actually in Callao, the largest port in South America. We met our guide, Juan Carlos, JC for short, for the 45 minute bus ride to Miraflores, Lima. He shared several interesting facts about Peru such as we are in the city of Lima, which is in the district of Lima, which is in the province of Lima so we are going to Lima, Lima, Lima! Did you know the potato originated in Peru and was brought to Europe by the Spaniards? There are over 3,000 varieties of potatoes in Peru! JC told us we must try the Peruvian national drink- Pisco. One is not enough because they taste so good but 3 is too many!

It was almost 11 PM when we checked in to the hotel. Stacy and Kyle went off in search of a late Peruvian meal and the rest of us retired for the evening, anticipating a busy day tomorrow!
