Saturday Nov. 14: Exploring Cusco


This morning delegates will explore the city including a visit to the Cusco Cathedral, considered the best repository of colonial art from the Cusco school. Continue from there to visit Qoricancha (Court of Gold, also known as the Temple of the Sun), which was the most important temple in the Incan Empire and where now sits the Church of Santo Domingo, the original structure being demolished by the Spanish to use its parts for the foundation for their church. Finish your explorations just outside the city is Sacsayhuaman; a spectacular fortress built with huge carved rocks jointed with absolute accuracy. This astounding sample of the Incan military architecture is, undoubtedly, the greatest architectonic work of the Tahuantinsuyo.
